William F. Bowers

William Furner Bowers, age 80, of Houghton Lake passed away on Saturday July 14, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side.

Bill was born on August 11, 1937 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Frederick and Elnora (Hard) Bowers. He grew up and attended school in the Battle Creek Area. Bill was married on June 16, 1957 in Battle Creek to Hazel Bundy. He served as a SSG in the Air Force Reserves following high school. Bill was a United Methodist Church Minister for many years ministering in Osseo, Reading, Ravenna, Hesperia and Munising, Michigan and Williamsport, Ohio. He also served as a missionary to Haiti, Costa Rica, Paraguay and Chile. Bill was a member of Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church and had enjoyed helping build several churches in Michigan and throughout the country including the Houghton Lake Church of God. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping and was a master wood carver.

Surviving Bill are his loving wife of 61 years, Hazel Bowers of Houghton Lake; son, Robert (Patricia) Bowers of Munising; daughter, Tamara (Bruce) Allen of Battle Creek and son, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Bowers of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Maynard (Leenamari) Bowers. Bill was preceded in death by father, Frederick Clare Bowers, mother, Elnora Bowers and three brothers, Donald, Thomas, and Elwood.

Friends will be received 5:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home, where funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Dan R. Lane 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018.
