William Hugh "Bill" Strickland, 87, of Battle Creek and formerly of Traverse City, Michigan, died peacefully Friday, May 15, 2020 at The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Bill was born November 28, 1932 in Alba, Michigan, the son of Hugh and Beatrice Strickland. He grew up in Alba, where he was an exceptional student and entered the University of Michigan at Flint in his early teens. He then received his Law Degree in Ann Arbor at University of Michigan. Bill honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. Bill was employed at the Buick Division of General Motors in Flint and completed his career there as a Purchasing Director. He then went on to work as a lawyer at Hubbell Law Office and Title & Escrow Services in Traverse City. In addition, he practiced family law at Friend of the Court in Grand Traverse County and was also involved in the 3rd Level Crisis Center.
William Hugh Strickland and Patricia Ann (Loser) Tiesworth were married in 1985. Surviving are his wife, "Pat"; four children, Debbie Strickland of Birch Run, Sue (Chris) Towery of Sparta, Bart (Tammy) Strickland of Interlochen, Matt (Tammy) Strickland of Burlington, NC; six stepchildren, Kathy (Doug) Grosso of Bellevue, John Tiesworth, Matt (Debbie) Tiesworth of Spring Lake, Michael (Christine) Tiesworth of Interlochen, Daniel Tiesworth of Interlochen, Linda (Jason) Gollan of Traverse City; 21 grandchildren, and eight greatâgrandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Todd Strickland.
Bill was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid reader, with a library envied by many. Bill was a competitive Bridge player and earned the rank of 'Platinum Life Master.' He was a former member of the Buckley School Board. Bill enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Bill will be remembered for his generosity and love of nature and his family.
Due to the COVID-19 virus, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately for Bill's family at the Roman Catholic Community of St. Mary of Hannah in Kingsley, MI. Interment will follow in the church cemetery at St. Mary of Hannah.
