Wilma M. Gillett went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, June 10, 2024 surrounded by family at the home of her son Daniel Gillett in Otsego, Michigan. After a long full life of 90 years she succumbed due to several chronic health issues.
Wilma was born October 22, 1933 in Battle Creek/Emmett Township to Charles and Mildred Hoover. She grew up on her father’s dairy farm and attended Spaulding School. She married Kenneth R. Gillett on December 27, 1954. After several moves, including a few months in Ohio, they settled on the Hoover Farm at 6 ½ mile road, Battle Creek, Michigan where she, along with her husband, raised their three children.
Wilma enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and competing in games, whether it was softball and volleyball during her younger years or at Cards anytime. She was an avid gardener and many vacations were spent camping around Michigan. Wilma also enjoyed getting family together for summer holiday potlucks and games as well as holiday dinners. A big thanksgiving meal was always one of her favorites. She was a lifelong member of First Wesleyan (now Woodland) Church in Battle Creek, Michigan, where she faithfully served in Sunday School and Christian Youth Crusaders for several decades.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth M. Winch of Bellevue, MI, her sons, Randy (Mary) Gillett of Youngsville, NC, Daniel (Christie) Gillett of Otsego, MI, and daughter Julia (Ben) Cushman of Battle Creek, MI; her grandchildren Jordan Gillett, Bethany Corey, Chelsea Jones, Sean Cushman, Zachary Cushman, Rachelle Gillett, and Tyler Gillett as well as several great grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth R. Gillett on January 27, 2009; her sister Marjorie Walker, and her brother Ralph Hoover both of Battle Creek, MI and a grandson, Darrin Marc Gillett
